Residence at The Boulders Resort
The Architectural profile avoids being too obviously "house-like" or suggesting anything which could compete with the forms of the rocks. The house was designed more as a contrasting (but not competing) foil for its mountain backdrop. In order to retain the "primitive" boulder experience and to allow a changing pattern of light against the rocks, the 300 foot long house was designed to cut knife-like through the site staying away from the face of the major boulders. A large pool and garden terrace has a southern exposure and provides the cooling effect of moving water in proximity to all living and entertainment areas. Natural stone and copper are articulated into broken, angular masses. Seven indoor/outdoor levels cascade down the sloping site, maximizing major views without direct exposure to the western sun.
