The design of this was influenced by its dramatic hilltop site, which had been rather insensitively graded by a prior owner. The mountaintop had been cut off leaving an awkward, flat profile against the sky. The massing, forms and colors of the design of the house were viewed as an opportunity to restore some abstract sense of the original profile of the mountain itself.
