Situated on the edge of the Phoenix Mountain Preserve, this residence needed materials, forms, and colors that blended with the natural rock surface of its majestic backdrop. The client’s preference was for a low maintenance exterior that would withstand the harsh desert sun. Fluted, earth-tone masonry was used both for its low maintenance and to echo the shadow effect of the ribbed Saguaro cactus, which is prominent in the area.
